Two Different Tests, One Shared Goal

Whether or not you live in a “traditional ACT” state, the ACT is accepted at all degree-conferring colleges in the US – and although most students see similar performance across both exams, some prefer one to the other.

The ACT has a dedicated Science section; the SAT® does not. The ACT has more questions, and less time per question; the SAT Math section focuses more heavily on algebra and data analysis. It doesn’t matter to colleges which test you take, but it may to you – at C2, we start with a diagnostic test and consultation, and then build a personalized plan based on your student’s needs and preferences.

ACT Prep Built Around
Strategy and Timing

The ACT rewards students who can combine strong academic skills with efficient decision-making under pressure. Our programs are designed to help students prepare for both.

  • Every student begins with a full-length ACT diagnostic test that helps identify strengths, pacing challenges, and opportunities for improvement. From there, we build a customized preparation plan tailored to each student’s needs and goals.

  • The ACT’s pace can feel demanding without the right preparation. Students work through timed practice and targeted review to strengthen accuracy, improve pacing, and become more comfortable managing pressure across each section of the exam.

  • As students strengthen test-taking strategy, time management, and problem-solving skills, they also develop habits that continue supporting academic performance throughout high school.

FAQs About ACT Prep

  • The ACT and SAT test similar academic concepts, but the experience of taking each exam can feel very different. Many students find the ACT’s faster pacing more demanding, while others prefer its structure and question style. The right fit depends on the student.

  • Consistent timed practice helps students become more comfortable managing pacing across each section of the exam. We help students identify where time is being lost and develop strategies that improve efficiency without sacrificing accuracy.

  • Every student starts from a different place, so ACT score improvements vary based on factors such as baseline scores, target goals, study habits, and preparation time. At C2, we begin with a diagnostic assessment to identify each student’s strengths and areas for growth. From there, our educators create a personalized study plan that focuses on the skills and strategies that will have the greatest impact. With targeted instruction, regular practice tests, and ongoing progress tracking, students can make meaningful gains and walk into test day better prepared.

  • Most students benefit from taking the ACT more than once. Taking the exam early allows students to gain valuable experience with the test format, identify areas for improvement, and build a more effective ACT study plan for future test dates. Many colleges consider a student’s highest scores, so additional testing opportunities can be worthwhile when paired with focused preparation. At C2, we help students develop a personalized testing timeline based on their goals, academic schedule, and college admissions plans.

  • It depends. We recommend that students aim to attain their final score by the end of their junior year. Of course, each student has a different starting point, but we have found that students who start preparation the summer before their junior year are able to work towards their goal score at a healthy pace and set themselves up for a strong application season their senior year.

Because every student learns differently, preparation is personalized to focus on the areas where they can make the most progress.

  • What makes C2 different is that we don’t believe in one-size-fits-all test prep. Every student starts with a full-length diagnostic test and receives a personalized ACT study plan based on their academic strengths, challenges, and goals. Our expert educators provide individualized instruction in a focused 3:1 setting, while ongoing assessments and regular feedback help keep students on track. As students progress towards their goals, we adjust their plan to ensure they’re making meaningful gains every step of the way.

  • ACT practice tests are an important part of effective test preparation because they help students build familiarity with the exam format, pacing, and question types. At C2, full-length practice tests are paired with detailed score analysis to identify strengths and areas for improvement. These insights help our educators create and adjust personalized study plans, ensuring students spend their time strengthening the skills that will have the greatest impact on test day.

  • Yes. Every student has different goals, schedules, and starting points, which is why our center director will work with each family to create a personalized ACT prep plan tailored to their student. We consider factors such as diagnostic test results, target score, school commitments, and upcoming test dates to build a realistic preparation schedule. Along the way, our educators track progress and make adjustments as needed so students can continue moving forward with purpose.
