About the SAT

The SAT test is a standardized test administered by the College Board. It measures both what a student has learned in high school and what they need to succeed in college. Basically, SAT scores help colleges determine which students may be a good fit for their school academically. Because it is a standardized test, schools are able to compare all applicants on a common scale. Importance of SAT scores varies from school to school but it is generally regarded as a key component of admissions decisions.

The SAT consists of writing, reading, and math sections with an optional essay. Questions are multiple choice in all sections except the essay.

SAT FAQs

Yes. And in most cases, it’s a smart move. Different schools may look at different scores – some let you submit just your best score, some require all scores to be sent, and some combine the highest section scores across all tests you took.

It’s never too early! SAT scores are a key component of college admissions and the earlier you start getting ready, the more confident and ready you’ll be on test day.

The SAT includes two Evidence Based Reading and Writing components – Reading and Writing & Language – and two Math sections – one without a calculator and one with a calculator allowed. There is also an optional essay section.
