R. Edward Merritt, Herndon, VA
What brought him to C2.
Completing a broad interdisciplinary program at Wesleyan University College of Social Studies, Ed has always been a people person with an interest in education. Even though he’s a director, he strives to “always have one foot in active teaching, to keep in touch with the students’ needs.”
What makes him a smart director.
At the Herndon center, a fundamental goal in all of the programs and efforts is “to instill a love of learning and a desire to do the best and be your best.” Ed emphasizes to teachers that “teaching isn’t just about passing information along; we should all have a personal stake in the success of our students.”
Life outside C2.
Aside from teaching students regular school subjects, Ed once taught astronomy to a troop of Girl Scouts. He has a love of music that expresses itself best when he’s playing piano for jazz and pop/rock bands, as well as the banjo every now and then.
